Getting to Île-de-France

Discover Île-de-France

Île-de-France, also known as the Paris region, is one of the 18 regions that, along with the overseas territories, make up the French Republic. It is located around its capital, Paris.

The Île-de-France region, with its exceptional heritage, the historical heart of the country and the world's top tourist destination, immediately evokes Paris, the capital of France and a globally renowned city. The famous City of Light, the most significant tourist attraction in Île-de-France, overflows with beauty thanks to its extraordinary architecture spanning centuries. It hosts numerous cultural centers and museums, such as the Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay, the Centre Pompidou, the Musée de Cluny, the Musée Picasso, and the Musée du Quai Branly. It also features essential landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame de Paris, Sacré-Cœur of Montmartre, and the Arc de Triomphe.

But Île-de-France holds other treasures, such as beautiful castles, ancient abbeys, royal towns, romantic parks and gardens, or forests and lakes that invite relaxation. Among the most important destinations in the Paris region are the Château de Versailles with its magnificent gardens, the Basilica of Saint-Denis, the necropolis of French kings, the magnificent Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte with its park designed by Le Nôtre; the medieval town of Provins with its imposing walls, the Château de Fontainebleau, a jewel of French art, the charming romantic Abbey of Royaumont, the royal town of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, the Château de Courances with its wonderful Renaissance water garden, or the village of Auvers-sur-Oise, the impressionist village.
