The hotel Novotel Vaugirard Montparnasse makes the headlines in November 2011 with the inauguration of a hi-tech room with Microsoft using this showcase to display their skills.

This room is quite surprising in more than one way. First, it is unique, it’s the room 3120, and then, this room is short-lived with only 3 month to live and finally, it stands out for what it is : a truly hi tech room.

Like a Junior Suite, this room is set around 2 distinctive areas. But rather that to see a living area / office and a room, here it’s more like a grown up’s area and a children’s area. The adult’s area is made of a foldaway bed and an Xbox 360 games console with the Kinect peripheral allowing to use body movements to play without a gamepad while enjoying a great view onto Paris. The kids’ area also has an Xbox as week and the Microsoft Surface multi-touch table. This room made in partnership with Microsoft has many more things to offer, one of the most noticeable being the Sensorit mirror, interactive mirror located between the 2 spaces and enabling to show information flows and working like a multimedia device. Note also that PC tactile pads or even le lastest Windows phone device. In total 6 screens can be found in the room 3120 of the Novotel. On the design side, the room is far from the Novotel standards, as it all has futurist and pure lines.
The room 3120 of the Novotel Vaugirard Montparnasse has one goal: it is considered as a prototype, a test room by Novotel and Microsoft. Therefore, that kind of room won’t be extended to the entire chain, but rather to pull out the best ideas, use the best feedbacks and then pick the technologies Novotel will be adding to its rooms in the future.

On a functional level, the room 3120 of the Novotel Vaugirard Montparnasse can accommodate 4 people (to adults and 2 children under 16) and can be booked until February 14th, 2012 for 199 euros a night.
