Today, May 5th 2011, was revealed the list of the first 8 hotels to be granted the official palace rating, 4 of them are located in Paris.
Therefore, these facilities are the first hotels to be acknowledged as Palaces since the prestigious name got its official character and is now supervised by law. 14 facilities were running for the name and so no all got it. In Paris, the first 4 Palaces are the Hotel Meurice and the Plaza Athenee (both from the Dorchester Collection), the Park Hyatt Vendome and the Bristol.
The 4 other hotel getting the Palace name are : the Grand Hotel Cap Ferrat in Saint Jean Cap Ferrat (Alpes Maritimes), the Hotel du Palais in Biarritz (Pyrénées Atlantique), the Airelles and the Cheval Blanc both in Courchevelle (Savoie).
After the list of the chosen ones, we can wonder about the one that didn’t make the call. The list of the other hotels to have asked for the Palace rating is not officially known, but we know that the Crillon, which has been sold a few months ago, didn’t apply and the Fouquet’s Barriere (one of the first hotel to have obtain 5 stars in Paris) clearly said it would not apply. What about the George V or even the Ritz (which is said to be thinking about renovation) or even the Negresco in Nice which seemed to have applied?
