Hervé Novelli announced this week new signs used to indicate the rank of a hotel, a hotel showing the new sign indicates that it is therefore classified according to new hotel standards. Anecdotally, the blue octagonal panel currently in place had not changed since 1986.
The panels are identical for all hotels 1 to 4 stars, while the hotels 5 star wears a golden color highlighting the exclusiveness of the hotel which displays on its facade.
These new signs will gradually replace the blue signs until July 21, 2012. From July 22, 2012, hotels will no longer have the right to display the previous panel and provide a classification referring to the old hotel standards without this being regarded as deceptive advertising.
By cons, it will wait a bit before seeing these new panels blooming on the walls of hotels, since at February 23, 2010, only 4 hotels (from 1 to 4 stars) in France have taken the step of classification under the new standards and only 5 star hotels (new class of hotels) have encountered a certain success, with 65 institutions are now classified in the highest category. Paris has 13 of these luxury hotels, including Hotel de Sers.
