The Ritz, Place Vendome… here’s a setting known all around the world. Past the fame, the Ritz hasn’t been in big renovation since 1979… meaning forever !
The Ritz needs major refurbishing to be able to compete with prestigious contestants (some of them got the Palace rating) as well as to face the many luxury hotels opening in Paris (Shangri La, Mandarin Oriental or the re-opening of the Royal Monceau) not to mention new facilities with same standing in Paris like the hotel peninsula that will be located avenue Kleber or even the W which will open February 14th, 2012. Because a name can’t do it all and needs to be assumed, the Ritz will undergo major renovation work that should last over 2 years (27 months to be true) and it will start in the summer 2012.
The 160 rooms, the restaurant l’Espadon (2 stars by the guide Michelin) as well as the cooking school Ritz Escoffier are concerned with the renovation. On the other hand, the famous facade of the hotel as well as the Imperial Suite (with the living area giving onto the Place Vendome) and which is the true reproduction of Marie Antoinette’s room in Versailles should not be concerned with the renovation, these 2 elements being historical monuments.
Yet everything is not perfect at the Place Vendome as the direction of the hotel announced that over 400 jobs (on a total of 500) will not be kept during the renovations…
